Jackson Breaks Streak, Defeats Cape 6-4
JACKSON, Tenn.- The final home stretch has begun, and the Rockabillys kicked it off by powering through the Catfish, breaking an eight game losing streak to their interdivisional rivals.
Cape got on the board immediately, as they began the game with two extra base hits off of Brock Tapper, and it felt as though Cape was setting themselves up for another win in the Volunteer State. Instead, Jackson took advantage of a Cade Miles lead-off single and three free passes, allowing them to usher in a run. Adriel Vega issued another with a ground ball fielder's choice in the same frame, making the score 2-1.
In the third, the Goats were on the cusp of working a clean inning and adding to their lead. Instead, a costly error in right field led to a bases clearing double for the Catfish, plating three for the visitors.
It didn't take long for the Rockabillys to answer though, as Drew Ripepi sent a no-doubter over the Blue Monster in the ensuing frame. Then in the fourth, with two outs, Drake Blackwood delivered another timely hit to regain a lead that the Goats would never relinquish.
Another important RBI single put the Goats up multiple runs, and both times went radio silent from the plate after the sixth. Tapper put on quite a show for the home fans, with six innings, allowing just one earned run and walking one. His lone walk proved to be the only free base allowed by the Goats all night, as Joe Romines, Jackson Campbell, and Jaxson Lucas all worked clean innings to finish the contest off.
This victory marked the first time since June 1 that the Goats were able to defeat Cape, and furthermore, it ended the five game skid they had found themselves in.
Goats Notes: The Rockabillys take on their final opponent of the year in a two game set against Thrillville, with first pitch tonight slated for 7:00 p.m. CDT. It is Back-to-School Night at the ballpark as well!
