Ivan Vega Slugs His Way to Prospect League Hitter of the Week
MAHOMET, Ill.- Ivan Vega whacked five doubles and six RBI while sitting at an unconscious .522 batting average en route to earning his first Prospect League Hitter of the Week award, per a release by the league office Wednesday. Vega just concluded his senior season at Bethel University of Tennessee, a NAIA school located in McKenzie, Tennessee., where he finished as a multi-time all-conference selection. Furthermore, he was top five in total career hits for the Wildcats.
His recent week was filled to the brim with action, as he corraled a 1.392 combined on-base and slugging percentage. Vega managed another two homers, and 20 total bases, which nearly matches his total for at-bats at 23.
He also was able to carry an eight game hit streak with him over the course of the past week, with four of the contests being multi-hit performances.
Ivan's selection marked the second time this year that a Rockabilly has earned player of the week honors. The last such occasion dates back to opening week of prospect league play, when Cooper Casteel worked his way to the Pitcher of the Week award.
