Ryan and Mclaury Combine to Shutout Springfield

JACKSON, Tenn.- The pitching prowess continued for the Rockabillys, as the killer combo of Lawson Ryan and Jack Mclaury silenced the Lucky Horseshoes in a 6-0 victory.

Ryan commanded the zone over seven innings, in what became one of the most efficient outings for any starter this season. He dispersed three hits over his time on the hill, striking out five. Then, the baton was passed to Mclaury, who picked up right where Ryan left off. Mclaury allowed two hits, but the reliever was working with a sizable cushion, and never wavered on the bump.

Offensively, fans weren't treated to an explosive night, but instead a masterclass in discomfit. A stream of hits cascaded throughout the contest, although spread out by occasional backlogs.

Webb Watson began the night with a first inning bullet to right field, which plated Parks Bouck. After, the 'Billys would utilize three shutdown innings from "The Law" before striking once again. It was Watson's Memphis teammate Jack Pitts who would drop the anvil on Springfield with a shot to left field.

Bouck retook the spotlight with a sacrifice fly to center in the fifth, scoring outfielder Adriel Vega. Then in the eighth, Watson beamed a gapper, which waved in Cade Miles before Jackson ran across a couple more on some free passes issued to Jake Maddox and Vega.

Mclaury took the mound in the ninth, and despite a close call on a ninth inning double from Springfield, the shutout stayed intact, marking the second shutout of the season. That total ties a franchise record for shutouts in a season.

An Unknown Streak

The Rockabillys are a premiere ballpark for a multitude of reasons, one of which is their nightly promotions. The "K-Man of the Game" promotion is one they run, and it involves a player being chosen from an opposing team to strikeout and the whole stadium would win a free taco from Taco Bell. The 'Billys had managed to successfully strikeout the K-Man eight times before tonight's miss, marking an end to a glorious streak.

Goats Notes: The Goats go back to work tonight at 7:00 p.m. CDT versus the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes to close out their two-game battle. Luckily for fans, it is Replica Home Jersey Night, so be sure to stop by Rockabillys Stadium to snag a Rockabillys jersey of your own!
