Crowd of Nearly 5000 Treated to Rockabillys Walk-Off Win

JACKSON, Tenn.- Fans from all over flocked to Jackson, Tenn. for Fireworks Friday, which was sponsored by Leaders Credit Union. And this rambunctious group that ended up totalling just shy of 5000 was treated to a spectacular contest that saw the Rockabillys eventually earn a hard fought 4-3 win over the Normal CornBelters.

Cooper Casteel was utterly dominant on the hill for the Rockabillys, collecting eight strikeouts and weaving through CornBelters batters over six innings. The power lefty made it look easy, and he would exit with a win in his pocket thanks to a two run lead the Goats had obtained.

Prior to Casteel being relieved, the 'Billys managed to cross two runs in the bottom of the first thanks to four straight walks and a passed ball after the first two batters of the game struck out.

Well, fast forward to the top of the ninth, and the Goats possessed a 3-to-1 lead, with help from Brett Rogers who singled, swiped two bases, and plated himself on a passed ball. Jaxson Lucas entered, and immediately collected two outs. It seemed that the Prospect League leader in saves would come through with his easiest save yet, and send the large crowd home happy.

Yet, that isn't what happened. Instead, the next three batters would go, walk, single, double, and suddenly the game was knotted up at three a piece. Finally, Lucas would corral that third out, but now the pressure returned to the relatively ineffective Rockabillys offense.

The drama all came to a head, when it was bases loaded, nobody out for Mason Acton. Action Acton, who is batting a sizzling .435 in the final three frames, was able to work the fourth walk of the bottom half, and that sealed the deal.

Magic in the Air

Firework Fridays, which is now a 2025 season mainstay, has not only drawn enormous crowds but brought incredible games. Goats fans have been treated to back-to-back walk-off wins during their Friday home games, and both ended on walks that scored the game winning run.

Goats Notes: The Rockabillys are right back to it tonight at 7:00 p.m. against the Normal CornBelters. Get ready for some whacky fun at the ballpark also, as it is "Zooperstars" night at Rockabillys Stadium.
