Late Rally Fuels Rockabillys Win Against Cape
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Rockabillys returned to form in their final contest of opening week, defeating the Catfish 4-2 and securing back-to-back series wins.
No action got rolling for either team until the fourth, when Cape worked in a run on a balk by Andrew Perry, following that with another score on a sacrifice fly into center field the following inning.
With Perry holding the score close by pitching-to-contact and limiting free bases, the Goats were able to sneak across a pair of runs in the top half of the sixth. Base knocks from Drew McConnell, Jake Maddox, and Brett Rogers allowed the 'Billys to knot up the contest, and subsequently, Perry was relieved by Jack McLaury.
McLaury continued the pitching prominance for the Goats, which gave way for some more late-inning magic.
With Adriel Vega working a walk, and swiping second a batter later, Mason Acton came through with a single that would give the Rockabillys a late lead they'd inevitably hold on to. An insurance run was sprinkled in the top frame of the ninth, thanks to a sac fly from Maddox.
It was all left up to 2024's Prospect League reliever of the year Jaxson Lucas to lock up the Catfish offense. With supreme confidence, Lucas went 1-2-3 to once again give the Rockabillys a rubber match victory.
Goats Notes: Following a day off today, the Goats make their return trip to Jackson to host the Dubois County Bombers for three games. Current start is set for 7:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, which will also mark Travelmation J.R. Bobblehead Night at Rockabillys Stadium.
