Rockabillys Walk-Off Catfish in Dramatic Fashion
JACKSON, Tenn. - The Goats found themselves fighting back from an early 7-1 deficit after four innings, but proved their perserverance once again after dazzling fans in a walk-off 8-7 win over the Cape Catfish.
Cape blew the doors off the home team out of the gates, scoring in their first three innings, and staving off the talented Rockabilly offense to hold a dominant lead. However, there was plenty of fight left in the 'Billys.
The comeback began with a four-run fifth inning that saw Mason Acton, Adriel Vega, Jack Pitts, and Bradey Moad all score, thanks to a combination of walks, wild pitches, and a single.
The sudden revival offensively was complimented by wonderful relief performances from Chase Armstrong, Hunter McLemore, and Mason Clark, who kept the the number two ranked offense in the Prospect League at bay.
Despite a missed opportunity to tie the game, the eighth inning brought the Rockabillys one step closer, and then, the ninth brought all the late-night drama we've become accustomed to with the 2025 iteration of this squad.
Bases were loaded for Parks Bouck with one out, and the veteran forced a four-pitch walk to tie the ballgame. Then, one batter later, with a 3-1 homestand on the line, Brooks Jones took one for the team as he was smoked in the leg by a pitch from Cape reliever Zachary Lawson, plating the winning run and sending the fans home happy. This was followed by a tremendous post-game firework show that was the cherry on top of a successful season opening series.
Goats Notes: The Rockabillys return to action Tuesday, June 3 against the Dubois County Bombers. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. Tuesday also marks Travelmation J.R. Bobblehead Night, where fans can get their own J.R. bobbleheads!
